Welcome Pastor
Carlos Ruano
Carlos Ruano was born on May 15 in Washington, DC, to first generation immigrants from Guatemala. He was born again in June 1997 through the charismatic movement and had devoted his life to serving the Lord ever since. He will have been married to his wife, Alba for 26 years, and together they have three children: Carlos, Yvanna and Adriana Ruano.
After nearly a year-long search, Mt. Pleasant Church is pleased to welcome Pastor Carlos into the church family. Although he officially begins the pastor duties this month, he has been an important part of the church’s new journey throughout 2024.
Introduced to the congregation through the Syd Fearing family early last year as a guest speaker, Carlos initially stepped in as one of the rotating speakers for a Sunday service. Weekly guest speakers were scheduled through 2024 while the pastor search committee pursued serious candidates for the full-time open position. Carlos’ ease and display of love and his devotion to God was immediate on his first message to Mt. Pleasant, March 17, 2024. He connected with many congregation members immediately.
So many of the congregation were inspired by his sharing of the word he was invited back to share more. He has admitted that at the beginning of his time at Mt. Pleasant, he had no real thought to pursue the pastor opening. He was already working full-time at the church he founded in Washington, D.C., Mercy House Home – Mercy House. He also was an employee of the local Furnace Mountain Camp (formerly Freedom Center, formerly Glaydin) in Luckett’s, Virginia. However, the calling of God began to lead in a direction that led to him presenting his resume for consideration.
Pastor Carlos brings to Mt. Pleasant Church over twenty years of missionary experience in areas that include Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua. Together with his wife, Alba, they founded Mercy House in 2016 where weekly services are at 3:00 p.m. and include activities and fellowship opportunities throughout the year. He is also a spiritual director at Furnace Mountain Camp where a large focus is on youth outreach, among other responsibilities. He lives with his wife and three children in Gaithersburg, Maryland. --submitted by Shelly Coates
